No family should go hungry when the mother is postpartum or a parent is ill, simply because they don’t have anyone to organize a meal for them. No patient who’s traveled in for an organ transplant or medical treatment, should need to subsist on canned food for months, just because they’re in the hospital.
R’ Shayala’s Kitchen of South Florida opened to meet that need with love in conjunction with local Rabbanim. Reb Shayala’s Kitchen is there for families facing a crisis, people facing hunger, or travelers facing loneliness, R’ Shayala’s Kitchen of South Florida is there.
In the coming phases, R’ Shayala’s Kitchen of South Florida will expand to include a sit-down space, communal Shabbos meals, delivery to hospitals, and more.
R’ Shayala of Kerestir lived in Kerestir, Hungary in the late 19th century. He was known not only for his saintliness but also for his love for his fellow Jew. He would take great care to ensure no one went hungry, going to great lengths to cook and serve large quantities of food for whomever needed. He was famed for his open home, and promised to intercede in Heaven on behalf of all those who carried on his mission after he passed away. In the years since, people have experienced open miracles after following his directive.
It was R’ Shayala’s life’s work, and we’re proudly carrying on his legacy. Our team and our supporters have seen untold bracha from their participation in this endeavor.
